MY RESUME

Who is Andrea N. Pluskota? Among the many roles I fill, I am most proud of my accomplishments as a mother, wife, speech-language pathologist, and student. From “talking my mother’s head off” as an infant, to becoming a licensed Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist in the public and private sectors; communication has played a major role in shaping my educational and professional goals. Speech-language pathology intrigues me because we can work in a variety of settings, focus on a wide range of diagnoses and variables that affect overall communicative functioning, and employ a myriad of methodologies; all for the benefit of clients, students, colleagues, and the general public.

Over the course of my career, I have enjoyed combining my intense desire to serve others, resourcefulness, and adoration of diversity with my clinical knowledge to increase the quality of linguistic, academic, and social interactions for all clients and families with whom I have worked. My enduring passion for the cultural and linguistic diversity of the world fuels my dedication to the field of communication sciences and disorders and serving others across cultural and linguistic lines.

I earned a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a B.A. in Spanish from Appalachian State University. With a concentration on bilingualism, I attained an M.S. in Speech-Pathology from Florida International University in Miami. Since 2006, I have gained extensive clinical experience as a school-based therapist and currently work as founder and private practitioner with A Lovely Day Therapeutic Services, since 2008. Aiming to cultivate competence and confidence in scholarship, mentorship, service, and teaching, I began the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Doctoral Program of Communication Sciences and Disorders in Fall 2011. My research interests include English Learners and culturally and linguistically diverse populations, as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning. My clinical interests involve school-aged language & literacy development & disorders, language assessment and testing, autism and social skills training, and augmentative and alternative communication.

To sum up my values and what wakes me up in the morning…I crave freedom, intellectual stimulation, equity and justice, diversity, and perseverance. You may read more about how these principles guide my daily interactions and motivate me to pursue my personal, professional, and spiritual goals on a daily basis.  I am humbled by the opportunity to serve my family and community.
